A research and educational space where workers support workers across industries, identities, and immigration status
AWARE aims to empower workers through research, education, and community building.
The Alberta Workers Association for Research and Education (AWARE) is an evolving workers support space focused on research, education, and community building to combat lack of information, misinformation, community division, and worker isolation.
We focus primarily on supporting workers with precarious immigration status as they are most vulnerable to exploitation and abuse.
Resources for Workers
Our Resource Toolkit offers materials to help workers understand their rights, access services, and build supportive communities.
Given how difficult it can be for undocumented workers to access services and support, these resources are especially relevant for those with precarious immigration status as well as the individuals and organizations offering support.
In addition, some resources are specific to Edmonton as this is where AWARE is primarily based.
Research Projects
We work in collaboration with universities, organizations, workers, and governments to build understanding and spread awareness of the realities and impacts of precarious work.
Community Building
Education happens within the context of a larger community. Our approach extends beyond the school to help ensure students have the necessary support to do their best learning.
Community Highlight: Familia Migrante Latino
AWARE celebrates the launch of a new organization, Familia Migrante Latino (FAM). FAM is a community-focused grassroots organization aimed at supporting Latin American migrants in Edmonton.
Familia Migrante Latino (FAM) es una organización de base centrada en la comunidad destinada a apoyar a migrantes de Latinoamericana en Edmonton.
